Hey there! I’m Kim, the owner of The Pottery Room, and I’m on a mission to help people discover the joy of creating something with their own two hands.

I didn’t start out as some fancy pottery expert – I was actually just a stressed-out mom looking for a quiet escape from my kids (parents, you know what I’m talking about!). That weekly pottery painting session quickly became my happy place, and now I get to create that same experience for others in our Clarksville community.

From Regular Customer to “The Pottery Lady”

(It Wasn’t Exactly Planned)

I never actually set out to own a pottery studio. Seriously! I started as just a regular customer who needed some “me time” away from my kids. Those weekly painting sessions became my little escape, and I got to know the staff and even took a few wheel classes.

When the previous owner asked if I’d teach a few classes, I thought “Sure, why not?” Then one day, she approached me about buying the business. Talk about unexpected! In summer 2016, I took the leap – while STILL teaching fifth-grade science full-time (because apparently I enjoy chaos).

After juggling both jobs for six and a half years (yes, I’m a little bit crazy), I finally resigned from teaching to run The Pottery Room full-time. And honestly? I’m loving it. There are definitely challenges (huge understatement), but helping people discover the joy of creating something with their own hands makes it all worthwhile.

Do I have fancy credentials? Nope! I have what I call “massive imposter syndrome” – I’m constantly waiting for someone to figure out I’m just making this up as I go. But my love for ceramics and passion for helping people create something special seems to be working so far!

  • Our entire studio is designed specifically for pottery creation

And the best part? You don’t need ANY experience. That nervous feeling when you first walk in? I promise it’ll turn into “I can’t believe I made this! This looks way better than I expected!” when you pick up your finished piece.

The Person Behind The Pottery Room…

When I’m not covered in clay (which isn’t often, let’s be real), you’ll find me:

  • Enjoying the outdoors on nice days – I drive both a Jeep AND a convertible because I’m serious about soaking up sunshine
  • Running on the Greenway 2-3 times a week (though marathons are off the table thanks to my bum knee)
  • Dodging my Great Dane’s happiness-fueled tail swipes (which is why I don’t keep many ceramics at home – that tail is a bulldozer!)
  • Being a mom to my two grown kids – my son who is currently “adulting” in California and my daughter who lives in Clarksville (and occasionally helps at the studio when she feels like it, but definitely doesn’t want to work for her mom 😂)

My personal obsession? Our monthly clay workshops. I absolutely LOVE playing with clay – whether I’m throwing on the wheel, hand-building, or pressing leaves I found on my runs into clay to make platters. I’m the person who can’t take a simple jog without thinking, “Ooh, that leaf would make an awesome impression in clay!” It’s become a bit of an obsession, but the best kind.
