Quick Answers to Common Questions
Hours & Holidays
What are your hours?
We are open for walk-in painters:
- Sunday: 1–6 pm
- Monday: 11 am–7 pm
- Tuesday: Closed
- Wednesday: 11 am–7 pm
- Thursday: 11 am–7 pm
- Friday: 11 am–8 pm
- Saturday: 11 am–8 pm
Please plan to arrive at least one hour before closing so you have enough time to create!
Are you open on holidays?
We’re open six days a week, including most holidays. We’re closed on Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas Eve/Day to let our staff spend time with their families. We have limited hours on Halloween, Independence Day, and New Year’s Eve.
Inclement weather
In case of bad weather, we may close. Just call us at 931-503-3024 or check our Facebook page before coming.
Walk-In Painting
Do I need to make an appointment?
Nope! We’re a walk-in studio, so no appointment needed. If you have a larger group (7 or more painters), let us know in advance so we can prepare. Wheel classes and clay workshops do require advance registration since they’re offered on specific dates/times.
How much does it cost?
We don’t charge a studio fee or any fees for glazing and firing. You pay just the price of the piece plus tax. We have pieces ranging from $10 to $200 depending on their size and complexity. Check the How it Works page to see details about our selection and pricing.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payments (Apple Pay/Google Pay). We don’t accept personal checks. In the studio, there’s a $10 minimum to process cards or mobile payments. If you pay over the phone, there’s a $3.00 convenience fee—pay in person to avoid it.
What if I'm "not very creative"?
Can’t draw a straight line? No problem! We have stencils, tapes, rulers, and transfer paper available. Our staff is happy to help you create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. We also have sample pieces around the store for inspiration, and you can check out our social media posts for ideas.
Firing & Pickup
How long does it take to get my pieces back?
Our standard processing time is one week. For example, if you paint on Thursday, your pieces will be ready for pickup the following Thursday after 1:00 pm. We often offer faster processing (4 days) for an additional $5.00 per item—just ask when you arrive if we can rush your order.
Will you call me when my pieces are ready?
We won’t call you when your pieces are ready. Just plan on one week from when you painted. We’ll only call if we can’t meet the standard timeline for some reason.
How long will my pieces be held at the studio?
Finished pieces need to be picked up within 30 days of purchase. Works in progress have a 30-day hold from when you started. Wheel and clay workshop pieces have a 30-day hold from the promised “return to paint” date. Anything left past 60 days is considered abandoned and cannot be recovered.
Food Safety & Care
Are my pieces safe to eat off of?
Yes! All our paints and glazes are non-toxic and lead-free. Pieces painted with underglaze are covered in clear over-glaze and fired, making them food safe.
Am I allowed to bring food or drinks while I am painting?
Drinks are fine—just be careful not to spill. Food oils can damage unpainted pieces, so please don’t eat while painting.
Can I bring in my own pottery to paint or be fired?
We don’t allow items created or purchased elsewhere to be fired in our studio. Our clay and bisque-ware have specific properties we need to ensure proper firing.
Classes & Special Events
Can I make my own pottery?
Yes! We offer pottery wheel classes on certain dates throughout the year, plus monthly clay hand-building workshops where you’ll learn to assemble your own pieces. Check the Events page for dates, times, and pricing.
Can I schedule a birthday party at The Pottery Room?
Absolutely! Painting pottery is a fun way to celebrate. For details about booking a party, check out our Groups page.
Other Questions
Can I bring my baby or toddler to paint?
Absolutely! We welcome children and adults of all ages. We’re happy to help you create hand-print or foot-print pieces. Little ones do need close supervision so items in the store aren’t accidentally damaged. Children under 15 cannot be left unattended while painting or in classes.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes! Gift certificates can be purchased at the studio for any amount and never expire. We’re happy to mail them for $3.00 (phone fee) plus $1.00 postage/handling. They can’t be replaced if lost or damaged.
